Torin Koos mens 4x10 relay keeping USofA in third place though out the second leg. Terable waxing conditions up to the start of the race kept wax coaches trying all different combinations. When it came to the race Torin chose the rubber base skis with only glide wax on the tip and tail. This proved a good advantage for the US in the classic portion of the race.
A simile of victory
Marit Bjoergen had the responsibility for the Norway Women’s 4x5 relay to be fourth leg and pull the team into first place. I knew Marit was in a tuck on the hill just above me and to my left, what I did not know was how far she pulled ahead of the pack in the last KM. I found a hole in the snow next to the course someone had dug earlier allowing me a low angle. Marit came out of her tuck looking down and polled one V1 on her left looked up and the arena erupted with noise from every person, the sound was deafening! As she looked up and smiled I knew this was for her the very moment of joy in her third gold of the Olympics.

Seeing time in the river
Had this idea in my head for a while. Shot with the 24-105 @ 32 mm using a Singh-Ray Varo-Duo which is a polarizer and neutral density filter. Set polarizer to cut reflection and turned ND down to max density. I then set the lens to f 20 and exposed five frames from 10 sec to 30 sec and processed in Photomatix as an HDR image. The movement of the water diffracted light into the depths and multiple exposures allowed the polarizer to cut reflection on the surface as it moved. This technique allows you to see something that is there but not normally seen by the human eye.

A warm friend on a cold day
Patty and Butch the two ravens who "own" the Stevens Pass Nordic Center in Washington State stay warm on a cool day 3 degrees F. Often seen together on cold days using each other for warmth the also find and share food together and will follow me when I ski out on the trails.
